How can I make a strong cast bar connection?
Crank primarily not by fatigue. A small crack will start with an imperfection in the surface and then slowly (or quickly depending on the load) is distributed across the bar until it breaks. Some fatigue failures will begin to imperfections of the stem, but the surface imperfections are more common. The stem is broken when there are no metal strong enough to withstand load peak. One way to reduce the failure rate of a crank is polished. This improves resistance to fatigue. polishing makes the surface smoother elimiminates and many surface imperfections. To increase resistance to fatigue, after polishing, can take the rock out of the bar. This creates a layer of metal on the surface of the gauge, once downloaded, is in compression. This will reduce the load on the surface of the bar and bell reduce the probability of failure.
