Are the presence of algae floating along the shoreline, especially on an island, good or bad?
I was in Boracay, and the Philippines is impressive, especially its fine sand. There is nothing like anywhere else in the world. But one thing I noticed when Thomas went swimming and they were the presence of algae floating along its shores. To my knowledge, the algae grow where there are many elements nutrients for growth. So is it the nutrients provided by many institutions and homes in the neighborhood along the bank through its system Sewage? I understand that the island has no sanitation facilities and sophisticated spacious enough to accommodate all commercial establishments and residences are increasing on the island of Boracay.
An interesting question! It is true algal blooms which can cause tooth decay later and consume the oxygen in the water. But this only happens if there is no flow of water surface containing algae or water containing half-bodies. In nature, the flow is generally present in some form. It seems that some of the wastewater flow in this environment of those homes and businesses. It is also necessary that the water flow away. For algae, a bad type of algal blooms can develop in this way, and seafood to eat poison. (And people who eat fruits Sea). It is the variety called dinoflagellates. Are unicellular, and some people see them as animals rather than plants, because they move and a benevolent eye. But they are actually algae, and is the agency responsible for red tides. They tend to grow in freshwater but not only there. So what does this mean? Well, if the algae remain there all the time, perhaps no more nutrients than those who had before. It may mean that water will not be as clear all the time, or only part time. Algae can be toxic or not, and decomposition of algae may cause asphyxiation of fish or not. It may even be a food that attracts other fish. On a beach where people bathe, seaweed is a nuisance, of course. But no damage to people directly - unless the varieties that cause people to itch! This is another fact that some species algae may have. Anyway, we the people must understand that if wastewater, we freely in water, and not just "disappear". We expect the effects of our actions, and more algae may be an effect.
